AfterShock: Conflict, Violence and Resolution
14th Jul 2007 - 2nd Sep 2007
AfterShock was inspired by Indian artists’ responses to religious intolerance, riots, terrorism and the ongoing nuclear stand-off with Pakistan.
The exhibition has developed to include the work of 17 international artists from India, Colombia, Chile, Ireland, Argentina, Lebanon, Germany and the UK - who use film, paint and sculpture to explore the images of political and social violence that confront us every day. Making work of great subtlety, beauty and occasionally humour, these artists allow us to consider conflict and resolution from a number of very individual perspectives.
AfterShock will be presented as part of CAN (Contemporary Art Norwich) 07, a biennial festival of contemporary art supported by the Arts Council England and Norwich City Council. The exhibition is curated by Yasmin Canvin and developed in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire Galleries.
